Cassette Playa & KEN ‘50th Anniversary’ Collection.
We recently covered the news of Carri Munden of Cassette Playa creating a special collection for Ken (of Mattel’s Barbie franchise) to celebrate his 50th Anniversary debuting at London Fashion Week.
Because Ken is the ultimate pin-up, his muscly gold torso is featured in the prints along with CGI rainbow roses and the Ken logo. Text message and BBM symbols are also used in the prints to make Ken the perfect boyfriend for a new generation. In addition to the T-shirts, there were Merino wool cricket jumpers, embroidered with roses, and a bay-boy stadium jacket with gold embroidery and a big purple K stitched in.
The collection is now available, exclusively at colette.

CP x Ken® collection.
It was announced at the end of last year that Carri Munden of Cassette Playa was creating a special collection for Ken (of Mattel’s Barbie franchise) that would debut at London Fashion Week alongside the brands Fall/Winter 2011/12 show.
A bold move that we are excited about seeing as more brands attach themselves to labels in order to reposition their image, the CP x Ken® collection is part of Ken’s 50th anniversary celebration and will be launching exclusively at colette in Paris during Fashion Week whilst several pieces of which will also feature as part of the dedicated menswear day at LFW.
Erica Zubriski, Senior Director of Marketing, Mattel UK Ltd, said of the collaboration: “We are delighted to be supporting Cassette Playa’s show. Carri has really captured a great new look for Ken® in this, his 50th Anniversary year.” - let’s be honest Barbie had her time.
